ake a gander at this small quartz pebble. You should be able to see a good deal of high purity gold poking out of the rock. Along with the precious metal are shiny black mineral inclusions; possibly petsite or some form of telluride. A guy has to wonder what would possess the old timers to crush such natural, unspoiled beauty; yet, in the old days, they usually did. Back then, there was probably no such thing as 'specimen value'. Everything had to be melted down. In that way a buyer interested in gold content alone could assay the metal, weigh it, and know exactly how much gold he was getting in the deal. Finding collectors of unique gold specimens on the internet wasn't an option back the old days. You have to admit, the combination of natural, raw gold and quartz makes for quite an eye-full. It's a sweet micromountable piece. My source didn't say where it originated exactly, but it was procured from a California source.
I don't sell low grade gold ores. I sell authentic, naturally-occurring gold quartz ores with visible gold. These high-grade beauties are hard to find and expensive to obtain. My prices are not based upon the amount of gold contained, but upon the authenticity, rarity and collectability of these unique specimens.

I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold.
Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many gold-bearing vein systems filling the State of California.

GOLD MINING IS WORK
A
ttempts to find gold often produce a whole lot of nothing - nothing but exhaustion and the appetite of a horse. Prospecting may be the perfect calling for anyone with a sleep disorder. After a full day of swinging a pickaxe, rolling boulders, or hiking the hillsides, once a guy's head hits the sack, it's hello dreamland. If you didn't know before you went mining, you're about to find out what work's all about.
The fact is, a guy can't always load up his ATV or jeep, cruise down to a favorite honey hole, and dig up an ounce or two. To many of you, prospecting
probably seems romantic and, in some ways, it is. But don't kid yourself.
Many who try their hand quickly realize maybe it's not their cup of sassafras tea.
In the past, even today, many folks believe gold is just waiting for them to come and pick it up. During gold rushes, prior to joining up, people from the four corners read all the baloney about big bonanzas out west. Believing the bull, all those poor farmers, shop-keeps, and immigrants could think about was how rich they were before they ever stuck a shovel into the ground. I imagine, to a man, they expected to hit it big. In truth, very few did.
To the adventure-seeker living in today’s stressful world, there's a lot to prospecting; much more than meets the eye. There's tranquility, clean air, independence, and self-sufficiency. If you're the kind who likes working for himself, mining might be right up your alley. You may begin to develop a whole new appreciation for nature and the therapeutic value of hard work. These can transcend the almighty buck. If you're in love with making lots of money, your chances are probably better in a Las Vegas casino then they are in the goldfields. Whether it's alone in the north woods or some forbidding desert, there are habitats waiting unlike any you've ever known. But wherever you are,
the rules are simple. Either recognize peril when it's close and adapt, or let it slap you into oblivion. Considering how chaotic things are in our contemporary world, you're probably safer in the bush than in these toothy urban jungles.
Having been a digger for nineteen years, there's no way to count how many times I've been skunked, disappointed, ready to throw in the towel.
Most people who leave something else to chase gold quickly learn there's no easy ounces. But while money-wise, you may not hit it big, there are far worse ways to spend one's life. For me, working
the wide open spaces every day was reward enough in itself. Surrounded by
nature, full of hope, chasing an elusive dream, one imposes their will on life, not the other way around. Who knows? It may pan out for you. The prospector's nomadic, solitary lifestyle fit me like a glove. There's no feeling in the world quite like the one you get when you find gold in some desolate
place where no one else thought to look.    credit - G. Ralph
