Description
1575 3 pence of Elizabeth I. The obverse shows a left facing portrait of Elizabeth in robe and crowned, with the Tudor rose to the right of the portrait. The obverse legend shows"ELIZABETH.D.G.ANG.FR.ET.HI.REGINA". The reverse shows a shield, divided into four parts, with the date at the top, 1575. The "5" is harder to read as it runs into the beaded circle around the shield. The lettering around the border is "POSVI DEV.AD IVTOREM.MEV". As do many of these thin early silver coins, the piece has the appearance of some wrinkles. From the stand point of wear, the portrait of Elizabeth is stronger than often seen, and the lettering around both side more complete and legible. Aged, silver gray color on both sides.
