    Description

Here is an empty vintage perfume bottle that held either Sous Le Vent or Vol de Nuit by Guerlain. The smoky grey-green glass bottle is 2 inches from side to side and about 3/4 of an inch from front to back. It is about 2 and 5/8ths inches tall when measured to the top of the stopper. A little bit of two-tone cording is around the neck of the bottle. The bottle has a stamp on the front. It is an import stamp, I believe.
This style of bottle is informally known as the propeller bottle because the outward-extending rays are reminiscent of the propeller on a small plane. This propeller design has been attributed to Baccarat, and it was created for Guerlain's flight-themed Vol de Nuit fragrance, which in turn was inspired by "Vol de Nuit," a book by aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Although the propeller bottle is most commonly associated with Vol de Nuit, another Guerlain fragrance called Sous Le Vent was sometimes sold in this style of bottle. I'm not sure which fragrance was inside this bottle I have here, as the label is now missing.
There are no chips or cracks anywhere, just one slightly rough spot at the bottom edge of the stopper that likely occurred due to friction against the mouth of the bottle. The thin veneer of brass that fits over the stopper shows some wear and tarnish, as seen in the photos. The inside of the bottle has no visible perfume residue or odor.
