Rutherford B. Hayes, aluminum token from Shell's ‘Mr. President’ Coin Game. This token is one of the keys to the set, and is exceedingly rare. I’ve been collecting gas station tokens for many years, and networking with collectors for many years, and I’ve only seen three of them. There are two versions of the Rutherford B. Hayes token. They were minted with both the ‘Instant Winner’ reverse, and the regular ‘Shell’s Mr. President Coin Game’ reverse (this coin). The two versions were minted in roughly equal quantities. This coin won a prize of .00 in the game, which is about .00 in today’s dollars. Naturally, the majority of them were redeemed for the prize in 1968 (and destroyed by Shell Oil). They were minted by The Franklin Mint in 1968, 26mm diameter, plain edge. Condition: Above average. It is well-struck with only a few light scratches. One person asked, “Why is this coin is so valuable?” It is because no set is complete without this coin, and there are very few of them in existence. I have only seen three Rutherford B. Hayes tokens. One has the ‘Instant Winner’ reverse; two have the ‘Common’ reverse. I sold one of the ‘Common’ reverse coins on ebay on 7/23/21. This is the last one.
